Rank is a leading European gaming business, based in the UK and listed on the London Stock Exchange.
The Group's principal activities are: the operation of bingo clubs and casinos in the UK with complementary on-line gaming and bookmaking services.
In the 2009 Budget statement the Government increased the level of Tax on the bingo industry from 15% to 22% without any prior warning. To put this into perspective this increase in bingo tax will cost the Bingo industry around £33m every year. This will have a hugely detrimental impact on the nation's bingo clubs across the UK, putting many clubs at risk of closure.
Our questions to the Government are:
How can it be fair that bingo is taxed at 22% when other forms of gaming
are taxed at 15%?
Why is the Government targeting our nation's bingo clubs so aggressively
at a time of such economic weakness?
