Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2025 at Rank

At Rank, we’re on a mission to ensure every colleague has the opportunity to work, win, and grow in a way that excites them and sets them up for success. That’s why we’re proud to support National Apprenticeship Week 2025 – shining a spotlight on the power of apprenticeships and how they can unlock new career paths for people at all stages of their working lives.

When people think of apprenticeships, they often picture school leavers taking their first steps into the workplace. But the reality is very different. Apprenticeships at Rank aren’t just for those starting out, they are for anyone looking to develop new skills, gain qualifications, and grow their careers. Whether you’re at the beginning of your journey, switching careers, or looking to upskill in your current role, an apprenticeship can be a valuable step forward.

We currently have 20 live apprenticeships running across Rank, with colleagues completing qualifications in HR, Learning & Development, Leadership & Management, Internal Audit, Facilities Management, Chef, and F&B Leadership. These programmes provide hands-on learning, professional qualifications, and valuable experience, all fully funded through Rank’s apprenticeship levy.

As well as options in marketing and finance, we have recently expanded our apprenticeship offering through an exciting new partnership with Multiverse to provide a wide range of Data apprenticeships. With so many options available, we can support learning across most business areas.

Our commitment to apprenticeships reflects our belief that learning should never stop. We know that investing in our people is the key to delivering sector-leading experiences that excite and entertain our customers. Discover how you can work, win, and grow with Rank: https://careers.rank.com/jobs

WORK – Why did you choose to complete a Rank Apprenticeship?

My General Manager, Corrinne at Reading Central first brought apprenticeships to my attention, I was very surprised the company offered these opportunities to gain national qualifications for free. I was looking for something that would help me develop professionally and the apprenticeship seemed like a perfect way to help with that.

WIN – What advice would you give to someone considering starting an apprenticeship?

It’s a great way to learn and can really aid progression both personally and professionally. There is so much support available both from the apprenticeship Skills Coach, but also from my venue.

You will need to plan your time and be dedicated as it’s not easy but it really is worth it.

GROW – What did you gain from completing your apprenticeship?

So much! The apprenticeship gave me so much extra knowledge, but it was practical and could be used straight away. The apprenticeship learning helped me gain two promotions within Grosvenor Casinos, first to a Gaming Supervisor position and more recently into a Casino Manager role. Being able to complete the work online at my own pace with no travel needed was really helpful, while still being able to have regular face-to-face check ins.

WORK – Why did you choose to complete a Rank Apprenticeship?

I chose to do an apprenticeship because I wanted to progress in my career.

When I saw that the company was offering this great opportunity, I knew it was the perfect chance for me to learn and develop.

WIN – What advice would you give to someone considering starting an apprenticeship?

My advice would be to go for it! Take the opportunity, put in the work, and trust the process. Both the company and the apprenticeship provider are incredibly supportive, making sure you have everything you need to succeed. If Rank is offering this opportunity of a fantastic way to learn, grow, and advance in your career why not take it?

GROW – What did you gain from completing your apprenticeship?

Through my apprenticeship, I gained confidence, valuable knowledge, and both professional and personal development. It provided me with a solid foundation for further learning and growth. The skills and knowledge I acquired have directly helped me in my day-to-day work, making me more effective and confident in my role.

WORK – Why did you choose to complete a Rank Apprenticeship?

While already having a degree in Economics, I wanted to upskill myself in an area that I felt would help me achieve my future career goals. To have the opportunity to gain a Masters Degree equivalent qualification, with support from both the company and the apprenticeship provider, seemed too good an opportunity to miss. Especially as all of this had no personal cost as it was all covered by the Rank Apprenticeship Levy.

WIN – What advice would you give to someone considering starting an apprenticeship?

Make sure you find the right qualification for you, I started out at the level 4 apprenticeship but realised it wasn’t what I wanted and swapped over to the level 7. They are a great way to upskill yourself, and because they are workplace apprenticeships you have to build a portfolio of practical evidence which really helps embed the learning rather than just theoretical learning.

GROW – What did you gain from completing your apprenticeship?

CONFIDENCE! And lots of it. I left my apprenticeship with both a great qualification and a much better understanding of best practice in this field. Learning how to manage my time well, around my workload and the learning, was important and I’m glad I was support well by Rank to do this.

WORK – Why did you choose to complete a Rank Apprenticeship?

I wanted to do the Senior Head of Facilities Management apprenticeship because I love the challenges of keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Facilities management is more than just fixing things – it’s about creating efficient, safe, and productive environments for teams and guests. This apprenticeship gives me the perfect mix of hands-on experience and leadership development, allowing me to sharpen my skills whilst working in a senior role.

WIN – What advice would you give to someone considering starting an apprenticeship?

If I could give anyone advice before starting an apprenticeship, I’d say: Be ready to learn – fast. There’s a lot to juggle, from learning and your day-to-day job, but don’t be afraid to ask questions and lean on your team. Stay organised, embrace problem-solving, and remember that not everything will go to plan (because let’s be honest, in the world of Facilities… something always breaks). Most importantly, enjoy the journey – this is your chance to grow, learn and develop your skills in a practical setting.

GROW – What did you gain from completing your apprenticeship?

Doing a Senior Head of Facilities Management apprenticeship gives me invaluable hands-on experience while developing my leadership and strategic thinking skills. I get to tackle real-world challenges, improve efficiency, and ensure everything runs smoothly in the dynamic environment of the Rank Group. The mix of practical work and learning helps me build expertise in budgeting, compliance, and team management – essential for a senior role. Plus, I gain industry-recognised qualifications, setting me up for future development.
